Real Time Weather and Price Information for Farmers

Thomson Reuters, the financial information and news company, is providing accurate, timely and personalized information on more than 250 crop types to 1,000 markets in India.  Reuters Market Light is a susbcription service providing farmers with commercial information via SMS to mobile phones in the subscriber’s local language, enabling them to make better business decisions and enhance their incomes. To date, over a million farmers in India have benefited from the service.

As part of its Business Call to Action commitment, Reuters Market Light will expand operations throughout India where it is expected to reach several million farmers in the next four years. Once the business model, technology and partnerships are firmly established, Thomson Reuters will also explore potential roll-out to other developing markets in Africa, South America and Asia.
